Take a trip to the poiniant valley of Jarama, some 30 minutes outside Madrid and the scene of one of the bloodiest battles of the Spanish Civil War. The walk will take you through the quiet olive groves to key positions in the battle where it is still possible to see the remains – trenches, bunkers and dugouts – which are tangible reminder of this terrible conflict. This tour is led by Dr. David Mathieson, a specialist in Spanish history. Lunch is taken at the Meson el Cid restaurant in Morata de Tajuña, a small town about ten minutes drive behind what was the front line of the battle. The Meson provides an a la carte menu and various menus of the day to suit all wallets.
