The Palacio Real is—as the name implies—Madrid’s Royal Palace. However, the Spanish royals no longer reside here because it's too large for even their tastes, and seeing as how the building is the largest in the city and the largest royal palace in Western Europe, we can kind of agree with the royal family. With no royalty actually living in Palacio Real it is now only used for official state functions. Over 2,000 of the palace’s rooms are open to visitors, with each room decorated with antiques from the Golden Age of Spain that you can't find anywhere else.
