The Story of Madrid

Located in San Andrés square, the Museo de San Isidro is purportedly built upon the exact spot where San Isidro, Madrid's patron saint, is rumored to have rescued his son from a well (which can be found at the center of the building) by making the water rise. The permanent exhibit focuses on the history of Madrid, taking viewers through the cities progression through Paleolithic, Roman, and Muslim eras to the present day using a variety of art, archeological finds, and models. There is also a section documenting the archaeobotanical history of Madrid, with extensive data on the many species of plants grown in the city throughout its past.
