Known as the Versailles of the Middle Ages, Madinat Al-Zahra more resembles the Forum of Cordoba. These impressive ruins located 8 miles west of Córdoba in the foothills of the Sierra Morena are the earthly remains of a Caliph’s worldly dreams. The ruined city, built on three terraced levels, features the rubble of what was once a grand palace. Other notable attractions within these legendary ruins include the beautifully appointed Reception Hall of Abd ar-Rahman III, the white limestone House of Ya'far, and the Upper Basilical Hall. Scattered throughout the site are panels in the Arabesque style.
