Situated on La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu is a lovely late-19th-century theater, masterfully restored in the 90s after a fire. With over 2,000 seats, it is one of the largest opera houses in Europe, and each season it features extraordinary productions of theater, opera, ballet, and other performing arts. The prices for seats vary a lot. if you get affordable ones in ‘the gods’, make sure they are central, as the sides do not get good viewing. If you’re strapped for time and can’t see a show, the splendor of the architecture in this theater is worth taking a tour through the back rooms, including the old gentleman’s club. Alternatively, simply enjoy a cava, coffee, or tea in the embellished foyer.
