This impressive castle, now almost 400 years old, sits on top of the hill of Montjuic and offers some incredible views from 500 feet above Barcelona. Its historical importance comes mainly from the period of the Spanish Succession in the early 1700s, and up until 1960, it functioned as a military prison. It was then turned over to the city of Barcelona and is now open to the public, and houses an interesting museum for weapons—put in place by none other than Francisco Franco himself.
