Mandela & Tambo Attorneys

In the 1950s, Chancellor House served as headquarters for the Johannesburg law firm owned by Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo. The story of that pioneering legal practice, which focused on aiding those on the wrong end of harsh apartheid-era laws, is engagingly presented in the long abandoned but now meticulously restored building, which today functions as a museum. The museum interior isn't currently open, but you can still appreciate most of its exhibits, given its ground floor presents photographs and other materials in windows visible to streetside pedestrians.
