Finding Your Scottish Roots

For centuries, the Scots have ranged throughout the world, leaving behind so many descendants. Those who want to trace their Scottish heritage can research their ancestors' history through such records as wills, census records, registers of births, marriages and deaths, parish registers, wills and testaments.

As an official government resource, this establishment is a wonderful place to visit to research a family's Scottish roots. If you want to travel to Edinburgh to trace your ancestors, it's probably best to contact the Centre in advance in order to arrange for help in your search. The staff can not only guide you, but their publications shop has a number of family and local history guides for sale.
