The term "street art" means graffiti, and essentially that's what the Street Art Museum preserves and displays. Located in East St. Petersburg, far from the center of town, it's also removed from the mix of elaborate palaces and revolutionary vestiges that symbolize Russia's authoritarian past. This seems to be the intention of the Street Art museum, which celebrates the more mundane but authentic daily lives of suburban youth and the street art that they create.
The museum has two parts; one for exhibitions and the other for public events. The exhibition section, which has 200 square meters of wall for artists to use and guests to enjoy, is within a large factory space and contains more than twenty samples of street art and large murals.
