18th Century Baroque Cathedral

The Sampsonievsky Cathedral, or St. Sampson's Cathedral as it is known in the West, is a beautiful church that is regarded as one of the oldest in St. Petersburg. Thought to be the setting for Catherine the Great's secret marriage to Grigory Potemkin, the church is a popular attraction.

In recent years, the church has been fully restored inside and out. Dating to 1740, the dazzling structure is one of the many architectural gems of the city. Be sure to witness its marvelous chandelier and painting of Peter the Great.
