16th Century-Constructed Dominican Church

One of the oldest churches in the Americas, Iglesia de San Jose was constructed in 1532. The Dominican Order of Saint Thomas Aquinas constructed the church in Old San Juan. The architecture is in the style 16th century Spanish gothic architecture.

Owing to its age, the church is one of the most endangered historic places in the Western Hemisphere. Restoration and conservation projects have centered on the church's historic murals as well as the main structure. Nearly every historic tour of Old San Juan will include a stop at this historic landmark.
