Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian had a passion for art and collected over 6,000 pieces in his lifetime. Gulbenkian, whose motto was "only the best," wanted his collection to represent what one man can achieve in a lifetime. His collection, composed of pieces that date from the 11th Century to the mid 20th Century, is considered one of the greatest private collections and features the best works from different periods.
