Many of the several hundred now-abandoned mines littering the hinterland of Mineral de Pozos are off-limits to the public or at least challenging to visit. Mina de Santa Brigida, however, is a popular, easy accessible destination for guided tours out of town. It's among the best-known silver mines in the area, largely due to its three tall cone-shaped smelters built in the 16th century. These striking features, which bear an uncanny resemblance to Egyptian pyramids, embody the stark beauty of Mineral de Pozos's many ruins.
