The beautiful church, the name of which in English is "Expiatory Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus," is designed in the neo-Gothic style with magnificent stained glass windows and allegorical murals. Construction began in 1920, but the anti-Christian campaigns of the government in that decade halted the project, so the church still remains partially incomplete. Still, the church is a part of an active and devout congregation. Chapels dedicated to the Virgin of Lourdes and the Virgin of Guadalupe are also part of the architecture. Keep in mind that if a mass is being held during your visit, keep your voice low and remain respectful of the liturgy.
