Founded in 1992, the Irapuato Zoo brings a worldwide menagerie to one of Guanajuato's leading cities. An impressive cast of animal characters calls this place home, including giraffes, lions, hippos, dromedaries, ostriches, American bison, and a mesmerizing white tiger. Also on display here are some critters native to Mexico, including the jaguar, the black bear (common in the U.S. but rare south of the border), and the golden eagle, which figures on the Mexican flag dispatching a serpent (per a foundational Aztec legend).
The Children's Zoo hosts a Farm School for kids, while visitors of all ages can enjoy guided tours of the entire grounds.
