The original name of this venue was "Corral de Comedias," and it's a proud neoclassical structure that dates from the late 18th century. This was one of the more ostentatious buildings that appeared in the city when the mining industry was booming and was the very first theater in town.
The theater has operated off and on for about three centuries, as a theater and cinema, and was closed for a while in the early 20th century. The building that currently stands is a totally remodeled and renovated with more modern features that date from the 1950s.
