Yes, it's a major destination for Spring Break, but Cancun offers a wonderful place to go for a family vacation, romantic get-away, or historic expedition. Located on the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean, this resort city is as picturesque as it is full of fun and excitement. The weather is warm, the water temperature's delightful, and there are enough cultural sites, outdoor adventures, water sports, restaurants and, of course, bars and entertainment venues to keep you entertained for as long as you want to stay.
The area was settled by the Mayan people centuries ago and many of their ancient sites still remain. Tours are available for El Meco, Yamil Lu'um (Temple of the Scorpion), El Ray and many other archaeological sites. Day trips to the famous Chichén Itzá, with its soaring pyramids, can easily be arranged. The natural wonders (of which there are many) can be explored with guided tours, including the Garrafon Natural Reef Park (the Yucatan has the second-largest coral reef in the world), Parque Urbana Kabah and the Boca Del Puma Eco-Park. The extraordinary coral reefs and enchanting cenotes that spot the Yucatán make Cancun a divers paradise.
If you love watersports, Cancun has a lot to offer. There are many opportunities to rent equipment and even take lessons in surfing and diving. Jetpack Adventures will give you a thrill, or get above it all with Paragliders at the Beach. For an up-close experience with marine wildlife, go to Dolphin Discovery or visit Aquaworld. If fishing is what you crave, there are charters for deep sea fishing as well as spearfishing close to shore. For a bit of relaxation, try one of the many spas in the area or play a round of golf at one of the professionally designed courses.
The nightlife in Cancun is, of
course, famous. Enjoy dancing all night at one of Cancun’s famous nightclubs
like Coco Bongo or Mandala Cancun. But if bustling nightclubs aren't your scene, there are plenty of local bars featuring live music or salsa dancing to be found throughout the city. And of course, fresh seafood and varieties
of Mexican cuisine, particularly Yucatecan cuisine, can be found in restaurants throughout the city. Whether you want a romantic dinner on the waterfront or you'd like to experience pre-hispanic cooking traditions, there are a plethora of experiences to be found in Cancun — it's just a matter of which to choose.
