The most recently constructed bridge in Venice, the Ponte della Costituzione was built to connect Stazione di Santa Lucia to Piazzale Roma in 2008. Many tourists and locals refer to the bridge as the Calatrava Bridge, because of its designer, Santiago Calatrava. the Ponte della Costituzione has received much criticism over its modern-minimalist style, being at odds with much of Venice's medieval history and architecture. Regardless, the bridge is an interesting representation of contemporary Italian design, with a widely paved pathway.
