A Charitable Palace

Carlo Tancredi and Juliette Colbert Maleuvrier were wealthy aristocrats who started a charity the Opera Pia. They supported a wide range of organizations and religious orders, and hosted events and their mansion, which is now a museum with guided tours. One of the notable visitors was Silvio Pellico, a famous Italian author who wrote "My Prisons." The house was also a gathering place for the poor and needy, knowing the doors of the palace were open so they could get a hot meal. Rich charm is displayed in the frescoes, paintings and furniture. Many lectures and conferences are also held here, most of which have to do with literature and art.
