A Site for Historical Sights

A main attraction located right in the center of town is the Cattedrale di San Nicola, one of the rare fortress churches of the Middle Ages. The architecture is not just functional, it is beautiful, and the church contains many examples of Medieval artwork that are well worth the trip. The plaza outside the cathedral is also a central meeting spot that features a gorgeous fountain.

Utrip Tips

*Also known as Cattedrale di San Nicola, La chiesa Fortezza (The Fortress Church), or Cattedrale di Taormina.

*Also check out the beautiful Piazza del Duomo and Fountain right outside.

*Be sure to check out the Byzantine Madonna inside the Cathedral. This painting is thought to have been made by angels and thus is known as the "non hand made" Madonna.
