The Façade of San Francesco

San Francesco d'Assisi a Ripa is a church dedicated to St Francis of Assisi, located in the piazza from which it is named in the south of Trastevere. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, the church was originally the chapel of a hospice for travellers, and when St Francis would travel to Rome he stayed here. Following his death in 1226, the Pope gave the property to the Franciscans who named it after him.
