Bernini's Angels

Ponte Sant'Angelo is a public footbridge spanning the Tiber River and is a must-see Roman architectural marvel. Built by Emperor Hadrian in A.D. 136, the bridge connects the city to Castel Sant'Angelo (which was once Emperor Hadrian’s mausoleum). If you’re not amazed by this display of the perfection of the masonry arch, you will be by the 10 angelic statues lining the bridge, added during the 17th century by Bernini.
