Frozen in Time

Pompeii provides spectacularly well-preserved evidence of what it was like to live in the Roman Empire at the time of the Mt. Vesuvius' eruption in 79 AD, the ashes of which froze this city in time. Tourists can walk around the ancient shops, homes, and streets of old Pompeii. Fantastically preserved Frescoes remain in some of the buildings and plaster casts of bodies found encased in ash litter the ground. Be sure to bring walking shoes, water, and all of the usual provisions for a long trek in hot weather and rough terrain.
