Underground Necropolis

Among Rome’s largest, oldest, and best-preserved catacombs, visitors can still see some bones (at one site) in the Catacombs of St. Domitilla. These subterranean passageways comprise a large inventory of catacomb paintings that make the site one of a kind. Although the underground tunnels can be a bit smelly and the atmosphere can be a little spooky, it is worth devoting an hour or so to come and experience what early Christian lives were like and get a feel for what's beneath the Eternal City.
