This mansion is arguably one of the most beautiful, notable, and least known structures in all of Europe. It was commissioned by the Florios, a wealthy Palermian family, and built between 1899-1902. The architect, Ernesto Basile, blended towers, arches and protruding parts to produce a truly beautiful house in the Art Nouveau style. These different elements originate from castles, Baroque, Renaissance and Romanesque, combine to create a spectacular fusion of architectures. From an artistic standpoint, Villino Florio is recognized throughout all of Europe. Though walking inside of the building may not be permitted, the garden that surrounds it is open Tuesday - Saturday.
