Spleen Sandwich

You can't say you've really experienced Palermo until you've eaten one of its most traditional specialties: the Spleen Sandwich. Pani Ca' Meusa is a hole in the wall restaurant facing Palermo's old fishing port, well known for dishing up Palermo's most traditional street food to locals and visitors alike. The legendary spleen sandwich, stuffed with lemon, caciocavallo cheese, and veal spleen meat that has been deep-fried in lard, is the only item on the menu here, and has been for more than 50 years. Be sure to add some lemon juice and this kebab-like sandwich will surprise you.
