A Palace With A History

This palace of Manfredi Chiaramonte, Count of Modica has more than a few skeletons in its closet. From 1601 to 1782 the building was the seat of the tribunal of the Holy Roman Inquisition. Heretics and visionaries alike were compelled to repent their cherished beliefs in this "prison of penance." Today Manfredi Chiaramonte houses the Rectory office of the University of Palermo.
