Sicilian Street Food

Nni Franco U' Vstiddaru is the place to go if you're looking for cheap, authentic Sicilian street food. In sight of the nearby Marina Square, customers purchase their food through a window and seat themselves at one of the outdoor tables to enjoy the piazza's lively atmosphere. Order up a heaping plate of croquettes with a side of caponata, a stewed hodgepodge of eggplant and other veggies. The house specialty—an indulgent Palermitan sandwich of veal spleen fried in lard, called pani câ meusa—might not be for the culinarily squeamish, but the locals gobble them down with gusto. Food is served on paper plates while beer comes in plastic cups, and everything is priced accordingly.
