Several well-preserved 2nd to 10th century frescoes adorn the cavernous tombs and chapels, providing insight into the development of the region's Christianity. Highlights of Catacombe di San Gennaro include the Cripta dei Vescovi, a tomb decorated in 5th century mosaics, and the Basilica di Sant'Agrippino, where the 3rd century bishop of Naples is buried.
