Home of Fra Angelico

San Marco is a former convent that was famously home to Fra Angelico (who, in 1982 was officially beatified), an early Renaissance painter. Other notable affiliates of the convent throughout history are the Medici family, Lorenzo il Magnifico, and Pico della Mirandola. It is now a notable museum with a great collection of Fra Angelico's works, including the stellar San Marco Altarpiece (commissioned by the Medici in 1440), the Deposition and the St. Peter of Verona Triptych. So if you're looking to check out one of the artists who laid the foundation for the Renaissance, you won't want to miss this.
