13th Century Royal Castle

Castello Ursino was built as a royal residence for the Kingdom of Sicily. Today, however, it is a major tourist attraction and home to a public museum. Its construction dates to 1239 and it was likely completed by 1250.

The castle was transformed into a museum in 1934 and was greatly restored for that purpose. The museum contains many relics from the time when the castle was occupied by royals as well as artifacts from elsewhere in Sicily. If you are interested in Sicily's diverse history, this is a must-visit attraction.
