Overview

Stretching from the foothills of the towering Mount Etna to the edge of dramatic rocky cliffs that sheer off into the Mediterranean, no matter where you look in Catania, you are surrounded by natural beauty. That said, Mother Nature has taken her toll since the original settlers of Catania made this their home; it's been rebuilt seven times due to volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Don’t let that deter you though, as the city is rich in history of several millennia's worth of cultures. And if history isn’t your thing, the gorgeous mix of Baroque architecture (be sure to check out the Duomo and Castle Ursino) and bright lemon groves, contrasting against dark, earthy soil, make for an experience you’ll never forget.
