Hiking in the Alps, or Dolomites as they're specifically called, you'll find plenty of well-marked and maintained trails for the enjoyment of intermediate-level hikers. Whether you choose to hike across the woods between Meltina and San Genesio or take the panoramic Corno del Renon route, there's always something to see, depending on the time of year. Spring brings out the crocus blossoms that flower en masse, while during fall the larch trees flaunt their gold and red foliage.
Hiking huts abound in the Dolomites, and usually offer lodging, hot meals and showers. August is the busiest month for hiking, as this is when many Italians are on vacation, but all the huts are open at this time. End of June, July and the beginning of September are good months to hike in this area.
