Deep Roots

You wouldn't necessarily know it to look at it today, but Claddagh--today a Galway suburb--is one of the most venerable fishing villages in all of Ireland.

It once sat outside the Galway city walls, its fishermen crossing the water to sell their catch--they had exclusive fishing rights in Galway Bay--at the Spanish Arch markets. You may know the name of the community on account of the Claddagh ring, a widespread token of love thought to have originally symbolized the King of Claddagh.
