Center of Irish History

The oldest college in Ireland and site of over 500 years of its history, Trinity College also houses the world famous Book of Kells. Founded in 1592 by Elizabeth I, the college has been at the forefront of many historical events and controversies, not least among them being a Protestant college in a Catholic country, since its founding. However, the Book of Kells exhibit is the true must see on campus. Created around 800, the book contains the four Gospels and the New Testament, along with many illustrations. Meander around this historic college, and soak in all the history you can.

*While you are here make sure to walk across the street and check out the interior of the old Irish Houses of Parliament building (The Bank of Ireland College Green). It served as the seat of both chambers (the Lords and Commons) of the Irish Parliament for most of the 18th century until it was abolished by the Act of Union of 1800.
