Laugardalur Valley comprises Reykjavik's major recreation area. Known as 'hot spring valley' it is home to the largest outdoor thermal pool in Reykjavik. The year-round pool offers visitors the chance to relax in warm waters in summer or surrounded with ice and snow.
The recreation area also hosts Reykjavik's major sports stadium. Area facilities include an indoor ice rink, running tracks, football fields, a youth hostel, and campsites. The popular family park features summer rides and a year-round play area. Laugardalur's zoo showcases Icelandic animals from reindeer, seals, and white foxes to domestic cattle, sheep, and horses. Admission to the area's botanical garden is free. Here visitors can learn to identify Icelandic plant life. Or simply relax in the garden's Cafe Flora.
