Alongside Yellowstone and Kamchatka, Iceland is a global heavy-hitter when it comes to geothermal action, and Hveragerði's one of the great places to take it in. The town comes steaming with hot springs: In the geothermal park here, you can soak in the toasty waters and enjoy eats cooked with the natural heat. Some of the local hot springs aren't all that old: An earthquake in 2008 opened some new ones up, showing that Iceland's position along the Mid-Atlantic Rift is a restless one.
