A Good Walk Rewarded

Lighthouses are not everybody's idea of a must-see destination, but in this case the walk out there can make it worthwhile for anyone. Located at the mouth of the Reykjavik harbor, it takes about an hour's brisk walk to get there from town and, if you arrive at low tide, you can even go onto the little island and see a nice example of an early 20th century lighthouse. More to the point, for many, it's a nature preserve, so you'll be able to see quite a bit of birdlife. During the summer, it makes a romantic destination for a picnic and, in the autumn evenings, it's far enough from city lights to make a good spot to view Northern Lights.
