Most Celebrated Fortress on the Island

The Old Fortress is a major Corfu attraction that dates to the Byzantine era. Constructed by the Venetians beginning in 1402, the fortress is the oldest on the island and easily one of the most imposing structures you'll find on Corfu.

Today, many concerts and art exhibitions are held at the Old Fortress, which is truly a place of pride for the islanders. Although the fortress remained a symbol of occupied Corfu for centuries, it finally bore the flag of Greece in 1864. No visit to the island is complete without a visit to this remarkable fortress.
