16th Century Venetian Fortress

Construction of the New Fortress of Corfu took place between 1572 and 1625 during the Venetian occupation of the island. While the structure's exterior is certainly imposing, the interior is uniquely maze-like with its galleries, chambers, stairwells, and ramps.

The surrounding moat is just one more feature that makes this fortress such a remarkable historic site. Many people enjoy visiting the fortress for its history, but the structure is the site of many events and regularly features art exhibits. With its view of the sea, the fortress is a great place to stroll and explore.
