In Honor Of The Bavarian Army

Although the Siegestor was modeled after the Arch of Constatine in Rome, it looks like a scaled version of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The Siegestor was built in honor of the Bavarian army after its triumph over Napoleon and the end of the Napoleonic reign, and it features a quadriga drawn by lions, the symbol of the House of Wittelsbach, the Bavarian monarchy’s ruling family. The monument was severely damaged in WWII, but still serves as a peace memorial today, with its description, “Dedicated to victory, destroyed by war, calling for peace.”
