A Rare Gothic Jewel

Within a ring wall and its four towers stands the Schloss Blutenburg Church, located in the castle of the same name. The castle was built between two arms of the Wurm River for Duke Albert II of Bavaria in 1438 as a hunting lodge to replace an older castle that had been burnt down during wartimes. The chapel specifically is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, rare because of the lack of Baroque influence. It contains the original stained-glass windows, three altars, and paintings by Jan Polack.
