Surfing in Munich? Really? Yup. If you make your way to the massive Englischer Garten, there’s a special river where a wave can reach about one meter in height. Although it’s a far cry from the the ocean’s swells, it’s still pretty cool, and usually draws a bit of a crowd. One thing the river has on the ocean, though: this wave doesn’t break, so it’s been going for almost 30 years—which is crazy because surfing it has only been legal since 2010. Regardless of whether your surf, or you’re just here to watch, there’s sure to be a few folks around, so be sure an be nice, and if you’re surfing, make sure you don’t hog the wave.
