The beautiful Cuvilliés Theater, or the Old Residence Theater, has had a bit of a checkered past. Originally built by the Bavarian Monarchy, it was eventually dismantled, then rebuilt, destroyed in WWII, and then rebuilt at a different location. Along the way, it even had the honor of holding the debut of Mozart's Idomeneo. Regardless of the rough-and-tumble past of such a stunning building, the theater itself is truly something to behold, and plays host to numerous performances throughout the year.
