Café Elbgold is all about the coffee, and that's reputedly absolutely excellent. The café itself is a large room, plain but pleasant. To an extent, the café has become a victim of its own success, as it can be hard to get a place to perch at popular times.
So if you can, avoid the evening and weekend. Go when the citizens of Hamburg are hard at work, and treat yourself to coffee and a nice pastry. You won't be disappointed in either, and the service is friendly and helpful. The coffee is roasted in-house. You can also buy beans to take away.
