Not For the Faint of Heart

The Topography of Terror is a museum located on the site of the Gestapo and SS headquarters during the Nazi Regime. Originally this Nazi headquarters was destroyed and leveled, but as part of Berlin's 750th anniversary in 1987, plans to excavate the site and preserve its remains were underway. In 2010, the museum finally opened and today it serves as a haunting reminder of a terrifying part of Berlin's history. The museum offers indoor and outdoor exhibits displaying both original offices and rooms as well as recreations, documents, and photographs. Certainly not for the faint of heart, this Berlin museum helps preserve and display an essential part of German history.
