The Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery) at the Kulturforum is a museum dedicated to modern art of the Twentieth Century. It is part of the National Gallery of the Berlin State Museums, which is comprised of other museums and galleries throughout the city of Berlin. Together, these museums create a large art collection that covers multiple eras of art history. The works in the Neue Nationalgalerie are housed in the "temple of light and glass" designed by Mies van der Rohe in the late 1960's. This large opened building of windows creates a beautiful environment to showcase the artwork. The collection represents modern art trends such as Cubism, Expressionism, the Bauhaus, and Surrealism and houses works from prominent artists Pablo Picasso, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Joan Miró, Wassily Kandinsky and Barnett Newman, just to name a few.
