The East Gallery was created by a group of artists who chose to use a piece of the Berlin Wall to express the ideas of freedom and liberty through art. The Gallery is made up of 105 murals over a 1.3 kilometer stretch of wall, making it the largest open-air gallery in the world. In their own individual ways, the paintings on the wall express the ideal of freedom and the very human characteristic of a hope for a better tomorrow. One can’t help but be awestruck by the overall atmosphere created by this powerful set of murals painted on top of a instrument of oppression.
