The Champ de Mars is a large, grassy park located directly in front of the Eiffel Tower. The park was originally created as a place where the French military could practice drills and marching, hence the name's allusion to the Roman god of war. Now the park is a great place to have a picnic and enjoy the fabulous view of the Eiffel Tower. At night, the park becomes a hangout spot for friends and lovers who gaze up at the twinkling lights of Paris’s most famous monument.
