The Museum of Contemporary History retains some 1.5 million iconographic documents from France and foreign countries, including Germany, Britain, Italy, Spain and Canada. It is organized into four sections: artwork, photographs, posters, and objects. Devoted to political, social, and cultural life of the 20th and 21st centuries, the collections cover the period from 1870 to today, while allowing two world wars a prominent place. The base Archives and images make it possible to view some digital reproductions. The museum was originally founded in 1915 as the Library-Museum of the War, but its collection soon expanded to cover much more than just war and the name and purpose of the museum were changed.
